Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, held a constructive discussion with a number of political, social and media figures.

The elements of the political process announced by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya were discussed, including addressing the basic drivers of the conflict and the overall political, economic and security challenges.

Khoury stressed the importance of true national ownership of this comprehensive process that seeks to maintain stability, unify institutions, and restore their legitimacy in order to build the state and build on Libyan legislative frameworks.

She also explained in her speech the ongoing arrangements regarding the advisory committee that will be tasked with studying and proposing alternatives to overcome the obstacles that prevent holding elections, including controversial issues in electoral laws.

In turn, participants raised concerns about the current situation and the possibility of further divisions in the country.

Furthermore, they expressed grave concern about corruption, shrinking civic space, human rights violations, and restrictions on freedom of the press, stressing the need for a permanent constitution.
