Reporters from various news outlets have gathered at Pak Nam Temple in Kwai Om Subdistrict, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province to witness the launch of the “Khwae Aom Ruamjai Dengue Prevention” project. This initiative has been organized by the Kwai Om Subdistrict Administrative Organization, in collaboration with Amphawa Hospital and government agencies, as well as the private sector.

The project aims to prevent and control the spread of dengue fever in the region and raise awareness about the importance of dengue prevention among the public and agencies. Mr. Danai Kajonphol, the president of the Khwae Om Subdistrict Administrative Organization, gave an opening speech, emphasizing the threat posed by dengue fever.

The event was attended by civil servants, members of the Kwai Om Subdistrict Administrative Organization, village headmen, assistant village headmen, sub-district doctors, sub-inspectors, kamnans, volunteers, teachers, and students from Wat Pak Nam School. More than 100 participants gathered to receive knowledge about dengue fever, including information about the disease itself, its vectors, and methods of protection. The participants also engaged in activities such as campaigns, distributing pamphlets, and adding abattoir sand to combat dengue breeding grounds.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Ms. Nantita Rattanasithorn, an officer of the Kwae Om Sub-district Administrative Organization, who dressed up as a mother mosquito, accompanied by students from Wat Paknam School portraying baby mosquitoes. Their playful presence added excitement and amusement to the event. In a lighthearted moment, the Prime Minister of the Kwai Om Subdistrict Administrative Organization used a mosquito swatter to repel the mother mosquito, creating laughter among the audience.

Mr. Danai shared that in the past, Khwae Om Subdistrict was known for having dengue patients every year. However, through continuous efforts and participation from various sectors, the subdistrict has become one of the only two in Samut Songkhram Province without any reported cases of dengue fever. This success has motivated the organization to further campaign for surveillance and control of dengue fever’s spread. Efforts will focus on preventing and destroying breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, as well as eliminating Aedes larva in households, villages, temples, and schools.

Providing an overview, Mr. Charoen from the Amphawa District Public Health Office stated that since the beginning of 2023, 162 dengue fever patients have been reported in Samut Songkhram Province, with a sickness rate of 58.41 per 100,000 population. Thankfully, no deaths have occurred so far. However, it is anticipated that the number of cases will increase this year. Consequently, Amphawa district has recognized the need to continue organizing campaigns to prevent and control dengue fever.

With the launch of the “Khwae Aom Ruamjai Dengue Prevention” project, the collaboration between government agencies, the private sector, and the community demonstrates a collective effort to protect the people of Samut Songkhram Province from the threat of dengue fever. Public participation and awareness are crucial in combating the disease and ensuring a safer and healthier community for all.]
