KIA Tigers’ Choi Hyeong-woo (41), who returned from injury after 20 days, announced his return with a home run in his first at-bat.

Choi Hyeong-woo started as the 4th designated hitter in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League match against SSG Landers held at Gwangju Kia Champions Field on the 27th and hit a two-run home run over the right field in the bottom of the first inning with two outs and a runner on first base.

Choi Hyeong-woo, who has been showing performances that belie his age this season, returned to the first team on the 7th due to pain in his right side, 20 days later, and hit a home run in his first at-bat.

In KIA’s first attack in the first inning, Kim Do-young hit a single after two outs, and Choi Hyeong-woo, who returned from injury that day, came up to bat.

Choi Hyung-woo hit a high 125 km/h slider on the third pitch from SSG starting pitcher Roenis Elias with one ball and one strike, and the ball went over the right field fence for a two-run home run. The distance was 120m.

With this home run, Choi Hyung-woo recorded his 20th home run of the season. It has been four years since Choi Hyung-woo hit 20 home runs in the season since 2020 when he recorded 28 home runs.

Choi Hyung-woo’s long-distance hitting power declined somewhat, hitting 12 home runs in 2021, 14 home runs in 2022, and 17 home runs in 2023, but he is showing signs of coming back to life this season.

His season RBI also reached 95, tying him for second place in the league in this category along with Guillermo Heredia (SSG) and Matt Davidson (NC). The leader is LG Twins’ Austin Dean (111 RBI).

If Choi Hyeong-woo adds 5 more RBIs in the remaining games, he will surpass 100 RBIs for the season for the first time in 4 years since 2020.

KIA added one more point in the bottom of the second inning with Byun Woo-hyuk’s timely hit, putting them ahead 3-0.
