The Kingdom of Morocco has made great efforts to accelerate the pace of the energy transition, which will allow it to become a leading country in the production of low-emission energy, such as green hydrogen, underlined Mr. Mezzour during a meeting on climate change and the situation in Africa in the post-COP28 world, organized as part of the Africa CEO Forum, which is being held on May 16 and 17 in the Rwandan capital.
In this sense, the minister highlighted the advantages that Morocco presents in the field of the production of renewable energy at very competitive costs, in particular green hydrogen, indicating that the Kingdom has launched a set of initiatives aimed at attracting foreign investment in this sector.
He notably cited the “Offre Maroc” initiative which aims to develop the green hydrogen sector in Morocco, by offering significant incentives to investors wishing to produce hydrogen and its derivatives on an industrial level in the Kingdom, in order to consolidate Morocco’s place among the leading countries in the field of energy transition.
The “Morocco Offer” defines the frameworks for encouraging private investment to implement integrated projects (production of electricity from renewable energies, electrical analysis and the transformation of hydrogen to derivatives and the establishment of infrastructure) in order to develop the green hydrogen economy in the Kingdom, explained Mr. Mezzour.
Thanks to the enlightened Vision of HM the King, Morocco has transformed itself into a sustainable industrial hub, through the decarbonization of industry, the fight against emissions, the development of the circular economy and the rationalization of consumption resources, continued the minister, noting that this transformation has allowed Morocco to respond to market needs and, thus, consolidate its competitiveness at the continental and global levels, in a global context marked by challenges and changes linked to energy and climate.
The work of the 2024 edition of the Africa CEO Forum opened on Thursday in Kigali, with the participation of nearly 2,000 business leaders and political decision-makers from several African countries, including Morocco.
The Kingdom is represented at this two-day event by a large delegation led by Mr. Mezzour and notably composed of the president of the Confédération Générale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM), Chakib Alj, the president and CEO of Royal Air Maroc (RAM ), Abdelhamid Addou and the president of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Hicham El Habti.
Placed under the theme “AI, Leadership, Common Market: How Africa can win its place at the table of tomorrow’s powers,” the Forum is, according to the organizers, the largest international meeting of the African private sector.
