Yesterday in the Ecrins, Kilian Jornet completed his ascent of the 82 peaks over 4000m in the Alps, in a record time of 19 days.
“This is the most difficult thing I have ever done,” said the Catalan trail-runner and mountaineer. The ascent was divided into 16 stages, from Valais to the Ecrins, passing through the Mont Blanc massif.
In a hybrid combination of mountain running, climbing, alpine climbing, and cycling, Kilian Jornet brought together everything he is passionate about in this project: the majesty of the mountains, the confrontation with the unknown, a tribute to mountaineering and his mentors, physiological exploration, and the pursuit of physical and mental limits, all shared with friends who sometimes accompanied him on his ascents, and the community.
“This project has been incredible; I think it’s one of the most difficult things I have ever done, physically, technically, as well as mentally. Having to remain in a state of total concentration for 20 days takes a lot of energy, but it has been extraordinary. I remember all the sunrises and sunsets and all the friends who accompanied me in the mountains, and I am very happy and proud of what we have accomplished over the past three weeks. Now it’s time to rest and digest everything that has happened because I think it will take me some time to fully appreciate the scope of it,” Kilian Jornet explained.
