Beijing: Tang Lu’s husband, who killed Chinese vlogger Lamu, was executed. The court in Aba Prefecture handed down the death sentence.

Following a family dispute, the mother of two children approached the police against her husband, Lamu. Following this, in June 2020, Tang was legally separated from Lu. Then the young woman stayed with her father. Three months after the breakup, Tang came to the house and doused the woman in petrol and set her on fire. The woman suffered 90% burns and died two weeks later.

The incident sparked public outrage in the country and renewed debate on violence against women. At the same time, the court observed that his act was extremely cruel while passing sentence.

Lamu was a young woman with many fans on Douin, the Chinese version of Tik Tok. The young woman had made several videos about her life in the mountains of Sichuan province. These videos were watched by lakhs of fans. Following her death, thousands of fans left messages on her Douinil page. Millions of people used hashtags to demand justice.

Reports indicate that one in four women in China are victims of domestic violence. China criminalized domestic violence in 2016. However, such incidents are common in the country. Violence against women mostly takes place in rural areas here.
