Kim Chang-wan, who opened ‘Morning Window’, returned riding on ‘Evening Breeze’.
Kim Chang-wan, the new DJ for SBS Love FM radio’s ‘6 O’Clock Evening Breeze with Kim Chang-wan’, held a press conference at the SBS building in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul at 3 PM on the 29th.
In March, Chang-wan returned to DJ after 4 months since leaving the radio program ‘This Beautiful Morning, Kim Chang-wan’, which he had hosted for 23 years. ‘6 O’Clock Evening Breeze, Kim Chang-wan’ is an evening music program for listeners who have worked hard during the day. With the hope that listeners’ evenings will be a little more beneficial, a little more comfortable, and a little more peaceful, DJ Kim Chang-wan will have a time to share music and heartfelt stories.
On this day, Kim Chang-wan started off by saying, “I don’t know why I came from Power FM to Love FM,” and continued, “It’s in the same building, but the booth is separate. It’s the same place I used to come in the morning, but I came in person in the evening.”
He added, “After the change to evening broadcast, the time I spent riding my bike decreased. When I did morning radio broadcast, I rode my bike first, but now I sleep in more in the morning. The most ambiguous thing is dinner time. I’m trying to adjust the other times.” Kim Chang-wan, who is still ‘adapting to the time difference’ for evening radio, also revealed the difficulties he has writing openings in particular.
PD Jeong Han-seong said, “(6 o’clock) is a very competitive time slot, so I wanted to invite someone who many people like,” and explained the reason for casting Kim Chang-wan, a DJ who has proven himself on Power FM. Kim Chang-wan responded, “You should have told me that four months ago, so I could have just cut it off like cutting a radish,” causing laughter.
How did Kim Chang-wan spend the four months without a radio? Kim Chang-wan said, “I didn’t know I was such an anxious person. Children say they have separation anxiety, and I thought that adults also have it,” and “As the days passed, I thought a lot about whether this was separation anxiety and who I was separated from.”
He, who has been busy with broadcasts and performances, said, “I thought that if I did this and that, I would forget and get rid of my anxiety symptoms, but it was not easily cured. I thought about it more when I was busy.” He added, “I am still adjusting to the time and feeling like I am ‘home.’”
Kim Chang-wan, who was offered the job of hosting ‘Evening Breeze’ about a month ago, said, “From then on, I felt excited no matter what I did.”
Kim Chang-wan said that his ‘perspective on time’ changed. He said that he had a lot of thoughts after reading a book by a Swedish monk who chose euthanasia after practicing for 17 years, and said, “After reading the writing, I thought that it might be a long mourning for the setting sun. I always thought of the evening as a time to finish, but my thoughts changed. I thought that maybe the morning is the time to finish the previous night and the evening is the time to start the day.”
Kim Chang-wan said, “I hosted the radio for 47 years. These days, aren’t we in an age where we even buy water to drink? I think that with radio, anyone can come and drink, and it can be like a spring that flows anywhere, anytime, regardless of whether (anyone) listens to it or not. We want to become a spring, a clear water that always flows in the world.”
Broadcast on Love FM every day at 6:05 PM.
