“We may aim to recruit six teams, including Seattle and San Diego.”
With less than 24 hours left until the deadline for post-negotiation for Kim Hye-sung, who is attempting to advance to the American professional baseball Major League (MLB), a local report said that it is difficult to predict a contract.
American media outlet MLB Trade Rumors said on the 3rd (Korean time), “Kim Hye-sung was selected as the 26th free agent (FA) at the beginning of the off-season and expected to sign a three-year, $28 million contract,” and “Lee Jung-hoo, Kim Hye-sung’s teammate, was in San Francisco at the time of the post. “It is not easy to predict the size of an international free agent’s contract because he signed a contract with the Giants worth over 100 million dollars ($113 million).”
He continued, “To date, there are almost no specific rumors about Kim Hye-sung’s free agent contract. “There is not much information, so it is difficult to predict which teams are interested in Kim Hye-sung and whether he will consider returning to Kiwoom Heroes this year if he does not find a contract he likes,” he added.
Kim Hye-seong is an infielder with contact ability, quick feet, and stable defense.
In a total of 953 games in the KBO League, he recorded a batting average of 0.304, 37 home runs, 386 RBI, 591 runs, and 211 stolen bases, hitting .300 for four consecutive years and stealing more than 20 bases for seven consecutive years. Last year, he had a batting average of 0.326, 11 home runs, 75 RBIs, 90 runs, and 30 stolen bases in 127 games.
Hye-seong Kim won the Golden Glove in the shortstop category in 2021, and was recognized as a leading infielder in the league by winning the Golden Glove in the second base category for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024.
In December 2023, Kim Hye-sung announced his intention to knock on the door of the big league after completing the 2024 season, and Kiwoom later respected Kim Hye-sung’s wishes and allowed him to challenge for MLB. In June of last year, he signed a contract with global agency CAA Sports, speeding up his entry into the MLB.
After the 2024 season ended, Kim Hye-sung went to the United States, trained there, participated in the negotiation process, and returned to Korea on the 23rd of last month. I returned to Korea because it was difficult for me to stay abroad for a long period of time because I received special military service exemption as an arts and sports personnel.
While Kim Hye-sung has not yet finalized a contract with an MLB club, the deadline for negotiations is fast approaching.
As the MLB Secretariat announced Kim Hye-sung’s posting to 30 clubs at 2 a.m. on December 5 last year, Korean time, Kim Hye-sung can negotiate with MLB clubs until 7 a.m. on January 4, 2025.
There are less than 24 hours left until the negotiation deadline, but there is still a possibility of a deal. Pitcher Go Woo-seok (Miami Marlins) signed a contract on the negotiation deadline.
MLB Trade Rumors said, “Kim Hee-seong mainly played second base, but he has a lot of experience as a shortstop and is evaluated as a strong defender who would have no problem playing third base,” and “He has played for the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, LA Angels, Chicago Cubs, “San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers are teams that could be looking to recruit the versatile Kim Hye-sung,” he said.
