Veteran CBS Radio Host Kim Hyun-jung Announces departure After 16 Years

A respected voice in Korean journalism, Kim Hyun-jung, is stepping down from her role as anchor of CBS Radio’s “Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show” after a remarkable 16-year run.The announcement came during a live broadcast on December 22nd, as the anchor shared her decision with listeners, citing both health concerns and a desire to pursue new challenges.
Kim Hyun-jung revealed that declining stamina, beginning last fall, played a critically important role in her decision. “Since last fall, my stamina has rapidly depleted, so ther have been some days when I have not been able to appear on live broadcasts,” she stated.Reflecting on her dedication, she added, “Looking back, I have been waking up at 3:30 a.m. for over a dozen years as 2008, so I feel sorry and feel that I was a bit harsh on myself.”
A Long-Standing Commitment to Journalism
The anchor emphasized her belief that journalists should prioritize the news itself, explaining, “I am a person who believes that anchors should not be ahead of the news,” and noting that this conviction led her to rarely discuss personal matters publicly. Her tenure at the helm of “News Show” began in May 2008,with a brief interruption in 2014 when announcer Park Jae-hong took over the hosting duties,before Kim Hyun-jung resumed the role the following year.
Beyond the demanding early morning schedule, Kim Hyun-jung expressed a long-held ambition to explore new professional avenues. “Another reason is the challenge of something new,” she explained. “As I’ve been doing the same job for a very long time, there was always a desire in me to calmly prepare for a slightly different challenge.” she informed CBS of her plans three months prior to the public announcement, and the network reportedly responded with understanding and support, granting her time to plan her next move.
Transition and Future Plans
Kim Hyun-jung’s final broadcast is scheduled for January 2nd. CBS announced the transition on December 20th. Her successor will be Park Seong-tae,a former anchor for JTBC Newsroom. Park brings extensive experience to the role, having begun his journalism career in 1999 as a reporter for Korea Economic Daily (TV) and later serving as head of the political team at JTV.
“News Show,” a popular current affairs program airing live on weekdays from 7 a.m., boasts a ample following, including 1.62 million subscribers on YouTube.
