Comedian Kim Jong-seok revealed the story of how he got into debt worth 10 billion won.

Kim Jong-seok said on MBN’s ‘Special Scoop World’ broadcast on the 12th, “If this continues for a year, I feel like everything will fall apart. I always feel sorry that my family is all scattered and living apart,” and “It has become an unmanageable situation. The current debt is between 10 billion and 10.5 billion won. I console myself by saying, ‘That amount of debt can’t be called debt.'”

Kim Jong-seok became famous as the father of EBS’s ‘Ttuk-tak-i’ and earned hundreds of millions of won by hosting about 500 events a year. He married a woman 13 years younger than him and had two sons and a daughter. He confessed, “I sold my house in Gangnam and we have become separated families and are living in different places.” He is currently living in a monthly rented apartment in Gyeonggi-do. He explained, “I have not unpacked my bags because I have to leave if they tell me to. It’s been three years.”

“I was possessed. I thought, ‘Let’s do K-pop, K-movies, K-coffee, and K-bread.’ I wanted to plant Korean coffee and Korean bread in the US. While trying that, I ended up with a debt of 2.2 billion won, and it grew,” he recalled. “It was so hard and heartbreaking. I felt sorry for my family.” He closed down all his businesses in the US and is currently operating three large cafes in Gyeonggi Province. “I pay about 60 million won in interest a month. I should have a profit of 60 million won after deducting taxes, but it was difficult for about a year,” he confessed.

Kim Jong-seok contacted his wife and said, “If I hadn’t tried so hard in the US, my son would have been able to work hard at everything without hitting a wall,” and “I’m sorry that it has come to this.” Kim Jong-seok’s wife said, “The children love their father and know that he worked hard,” and encouraged him, saying, “I’m grateful that he worked at an age when others are resting and got back up even after failing.”

Kim Jong-seok shed tears as he said, “It’s heavy, but I have to overcome it,” and added, “At least now there is a ray of hope that ‘if I work hard, I can get back up.’ I will work hard and not give up.”
