The leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un and the Russian president Vladimir Putin they exchanged letters on Tuesday pledging to develop their relationship into what Kim described as a “long-term strategic partnership,” according to Pyongyang’s state news agency KCNA.

The letters were sent on the occasion of 78th anniversary of the liberation of Korea from the Japanese colonial rule of 1910-45, which is also a national holiday in South Korea.

In his letter to Putin, Kim stated that the two countries’ friendship was forged during World War II with victory over Japan and now “fully demonstrates their invincibility and strength in the struggle to crush the arbitrary practices and hegemony of the imperialists,” according to the KCNA.

“I am absolutely convinced that friendship and solidarity…will further develop into a long-term strategic partnership that keeps pace with the demands of the new era,” Kim said in his letter.

“The two countries will always emerge victorious, strongly supporting each other and cooperating with each other along the way to achieve their common goal.”

Strengthening of bilateral relations

The USA have accused North Korea of ​​supplying Russia with weapons for its war in Ukraine. Pyongyang and Moscow deny this.

For his part, the Russian president, in his message to Kim, also pledged to strengthen bilateral relations.

“I am confident that we will strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields for the prosperity of the two peoples and the strong stability and security of the Korean Peninsula and the whole of Southeast Asia,” Putin was quoted as saying. KCNA.
