North Korean leader Kim Jong Un chose Russia for his first visit abroad since the global Covid pandemic. The supreme head of North Korea, meeting with Vladimir Putin, stated that he makes the relationship with Russia his “priority“.
Meeting at the Vostochny space base and Vladivostok, Russian locations located close to the borders with China and the Korean peninsula, the two leaders visited civil and military aeronautical equipment factories and watched a demonstration by the Russian Pacific Fleet.
It is known that trade relations and international issues were discussed but before the meeting, the Kremlin stated that they would be discussed “questions sensitive information” that would not be shared. The Russian Ministers of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Industry were present at the meeting and Washington said that the meeting could result in an agreement to sell North Korean weapons to support the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
At the end of the morning, in a television interview, Putin admitted the possibility of military cooperation with North Korea, despite international sanctions against Pyongyang due to its nuclear programs and its missiles under development.
Kim praised”the heroic Russian people and Army“, Putin said he was “very happy” for meeting with his counterpart and said toast to “strengthening friendship and cooperation” between the two countries.
