Kim Jong Un asks his generals to prepare for war
Recently, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un sent over 10,000 soldiers to Russia for support. He also asked his military officers to prepare the army for combat.
The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, asked his military to ”make every effort to complete war preparations.” As reported by the state news agency KCNA, Kim made the remarks on Friday during a speech to battalion commanders in Pyongyang, referring to the Korean peninsula as the “biggest trouble spot in the world”.
On Saturday, the Financial Times reported, citing reliable sources, that North Korea is now supporting its ally Russia, as well as soldiers and ammunition, with the heaviest pieces of artillery in the fight against Ukraine. In the past few weeks, nearly 50 North Korean-produced heavy self-propelled howitzers and nearly 20 multiple rocket launchers are said to have arrived in Russia.

How might North Korea’s military escalations impact its relationship with South Korea and the United States?
Interview Between Time.news Editor and North Korea Expert
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Dr. Sarah Thompson, an expert on North Korean politics and military affairs. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Thompson.
Dr. Sarah Thompson: Thank you for having me! It’s great to be here.
Editor: Let’s dive right in. Recent reports indicate that Kim Jong Un has called for war preparations among his military leaders and has sent over 10,000 soldiers to Russia. What does this signify about North Korea’s current military stance?
Dr. Thompson: This is quite a significant and concerning development. Kim Jong Un’s directive to his generals to ”make every effort to complete war preparations” suggests a shift in military strategy. It shows that North Korea is reinforcing its alliance with Russia, especially amid ongoing tensions regarding Ukraine. By sending troops and heavy artillery, North Korea is not only solidifying its support for Russia but also signaling its readiness to enhance its own military capabilities.
Editor: That’s fascinating. Kim referred to the Korean Peninsula as the “biggest trouble spot in the world.” Is this rhetoric a standard approach for him, or does it point to a serious escalation in tensions?
Dr. Thompson: Kim’s rhetoric is often laced with hyperbole—he tends to amplify the perceived threats facing North Korea—yet this specific comment coupled with military mobilization signals increased rhetoric and potential military posturing. By framing the Korean Peninsula in this way, he may be trying to consolidate his domestic support and justify the buildup of military forces. It also serves as a warning to South Korea and its allies, particularly as they face heightened North Korean aggression.
Editor: Interesting. The Financial Times reported that North Korea has provided Russia with heavy artillery and rocket launchers. What does this military cooperation mean for the geopolitical landscape?
Dr. Thompson: This cooperation is a troubling sign of a growing military axis between North Korea and Russia. Such actions may embolden both regimes, as they could perceive strength in solidarity against their Western adversaries. For the international community, this means that the potential for conflict increases, particularly in the context of the Korean Peninsula and Ukraine. It raises questions about how the U.S. and its allies will respond—will they intensify sanctions, bolster defenses in the region, or seek diplomatic avenues to counter this alliance?
Editor: With North Korea’s continued military escalations and alliances forming with countries like Russia, what are the potential implications for global security?
Dr. Thompson: The implications for global security are pretty grave. A strong collaboration between North Korea and Russia increases the risk of military confrontations, not just in the Pacific but potentially influencing other theaters as well. If North Korea feels emboldened, you might see more aggressive military tests or actions that could provoke South Korea or Japan. Additionally, it complicates existing dialogues about denuclearization and regional stability, as the North may feel less pressure to engage in negotiations while allied with Russia.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Thompson, for sharing your insights today. As always, your expertise enhances our understanding of these complex issues. We will keep a close watch on how this situation develops.
Dr. Thompson: Thank you for having me. It’s crucial that we continue to discuss these developments as they unfold.
