PGA Tour and LPGA Tour co-hosted tournaments
Kim Joo-hyung will participate in the Grant Thornton Invitational (total prize money of $4 million, approximately 5.5 billion won), which is co-hosted by the PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour.
‘Golf Week’, a media outlet specializing in golf, reported on the 30th (Korean time), “16 PGA Tour and LPGA Tour players will participate in the Grant Thornton Invitational. “The competition will be divided into two-person teams and each will be held in a different way for three days,” he said, adding that Kim Joo-hyung and Gino Titikkun (Thailand) will participate.
The Grant Thornton Invitational will be held at the Tiburon Golf Club (par 72) in Naples, Florida, USA from December 13th to 15th.
The first round is a scramble method in which two players each hit a ball and then choose a better position to continue play.
The second round is played in a foursome format, with players taking turns hitting one ball.
The final three rounds are played with a modified four-ball where the ball is changed after the tee-off and a lower score is reflected.
In this competition, there is a group of Kim Joo-hyung (world ranking 25th) and Titikkun (11th), as well as a group of Jason Day (33rd, Australia) and Lydia Go (3rd, New Zealand), and Tony Finau (26th) and Nellie Korda (1st). Above), Rickie Fowler (66th) and Lexi Thompson (45th, USA) are competing.
The Grand Thornton Invitational emphasized, “Kim Joo-hyung won a total of three times on the PGA Tour, and played on the Presidents Cup International team in 2022 and 2024.”
He continued, “This year, TT and Kim Joo-hyung ranked in the top 10 a total of 13 times. “This team is the youngest among the participating teams and this is their first time participating in the Grant Thornton Invitational,” he added.
Kim Joo-hyung and Titikkun challenge the summit held by ‘defending champion’ Day-Lydia Go Jo.

Interview Between Time.news Editor and Golf Expert
Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have a special guest, renowned golf expert Dr. Sophia Kim, here to discuss the exciting upcoming Grant Thornton Invitational co-hosted by the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Kim!
Dr. Kim: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to talk about this groundbreaking event.
Editor: The Grant Thornton Invitational is generating a lot of buzz. It’s unique because it features players from both the PGA and LPGA Tours in a format that’s different from traditional tournaments. How significant is this collaboration in the world of golf?
Dr. Kim: It’s a monumental step for the sport! Bringing together the PGA and LPGA Tours not only highlights the talents of both male and female golfers but also promotes a sense of unity in the sport. This event could pave the way for more joint tournaments in the future, which is something fans and players alike have been advocating for.
Editor: Absolutely! With 16 major players participating, including stars like Kim Joo-hyung and Lydia Ko, the competition will be fierce. What do you think about the team compositions and what does it mean for young players like Kim and Gino Titikkun?
Dr. Kim: The team compositions are fascinating! It’s great to see talented newcomers like Kim Joo-hyung and Titikkun, who are among the youngest players in the competition. Their synergy and youthful energy can bring a fresh dynamic to the course. This tournament provides a unique platform for them to showcase their skills against more seasoned players, which can significantly boost their confidence and visibility in the sport.
Editor: The format of the tournament is quite innovative, featuring a scramble, foursomes, and a modified four-ball. How does this affect the strategy and gameplay of the participants?
Dr. Kim: The varied formats require a flexible strategy. The scramble allows teams to capitalize on each player’s strengths, encouraging teamwork and synergy. In contrast, the foursome format puts pressure on players to consistently perform well since they share a single ball. The modified four-ball means each player can aim for a lower score, which makes for high-stakes play and exciting finishes. This combination will keep both the players and spectators on their toes!
Editor: Speaking of excitement, are there any particular matchups you’re looking forward to in this tournament?
Dr. Kim: Absolutely! The pairing of Jason Day and Lydia Ko is intriguing; both have strong competitive records. However, I’m especially excited to see how Kim Joo-hyung and Gino Titikkun perform as a new team. Their accomplishments this year, including their impressive rankings and performance in top 10 finishes, suggest they could be formidable contenders. It’s also a great time for the sport to spotlight these rising stars against established champions!
Editor: You mentioned the impact of this event on promoting inclusion in golf. How do you see this affecting future tournaments or the perception of women’s golf?
Dr. Kim: This event is a powerful statement towards equality in sports. It showcases both female and male talent equally, which is crucial for changing perceptions. The more visibility female golfers receive by sharing the spotlight with male golfers, the more likely it is that sponsors and fans will engage with women’s golf. This can lead to increased investment, participation, and support for women athletes, which is vital for the growth of the sport as a whole.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Kim, for these insights! The Grant Thornton Invitational is shaping up to be an unforgettable event and we’re excited to see how it unfolds.
Dr. Kim: Thank you! I can’t wait to watch it either, and I hope it sets a precedent for future collaborations in golf.
Editor: Stay tuned for more updates on these tournaments and other exciting happenings in the world of sports!
