On the 9th, People Power Party lawmaker Kim Ki-hyun urged People Power Party leadership candidate Han Dong-hoon to “apologize for his political judgment.”

On this day, Rep. Kim stated on Facebook, “One of the core issues in the text message controversy currently engulfing our party’s national convention is whether the political judgment made by then-Vice Chairman Han Dong-hoon in the run-up to the general election was indeed correct.”

He pointed out, “Candidate Han Dong-hoon claims that the message from Ms. Kim Gun-hee at the time was that she would not apologize, but when you look at the full text of the five text messages that were released in the press yesterday, candidate Han’s claim is not persuasive.”

While saying this, “If you look at the full text of the message that was made public, it seems like Mrs. Kim said she would do anything if it would help win the general election, but where did former Chairman Han interpret this to mean ‘in effect, she intended not to apologize’? I absolutely cannot understand this claim,” he said.

He continued, “It is not an unreasonable interpretation to have doubts that the candidate may have made his own political judgment with some unknown intention at the time, but ultimately had a negative impact on the general election.”

Another candidate claimed, “When he was the Minister of Justice, he passed a motion to arrest then Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung through the National Assembly, but the arrest warrant was ultimately rejected, dealing a critical blow to our party’s approval rating.”

Rep. Kim wrote, “This arrest warrant rejection incident has dealt a nuclear-bomb-level damage to our party during the last general election,” and “It is only natural that I take responsibility for failing to make a sound political judgment as the Minister of Justice at the time.”

In addition, he emphasized, “It seems inappropriate for someone who wants to be the leader of the ruling party to shift responsibility for his repeated errors in judgment by blaming the Blue House for intervention in party affairs and corruption in state affairs.”

Finally, he added, “As one candidate has already said that he will take responsibility for the defeat in the general election, I believe it is right for him to coolly apologize for his errors in political judgment and ensure that our party’s national convention can move forward toward the future as soon as possible.”
