King Charles III arrived at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor on Sunday morning to attend the traditional religious Easter ceremony, his most significant public appearance since announcing his cancer two months ago.

Dressed in a dark overcoat, the 75-year-old sovereign appeared smiling, waving and seeming to be joking, as he got out of the car with his wife Queen Camilla in front of the religious building located about forty kilometers to the west from London.

This public outing comes a little more than a week after Princess Kate, wife of Prince William, heir to the throne, announced that she too had cancer.

Unlike other members of the royal family, the couple and their children are not present, taking some rest away from media attention.

Buckingham Palace announced in early February that the king was suffering from cancer, detected during a prostate operation a few days earlier, and had begun treatment.

Charles III has since canceled all official public engagements, but continues to perform certain official functions or honor small meetings, such as his meetings with the Prime Minister.

On March 22, the Princess of Wales Kate announced in turn that she had cancer, without specifying its nature either, and that she had started preventive chemotherapy.

His cancer was discovered after a major abdominal operation which took place in mid-January. According to the palace, the king is “proud” of Kate’s courage, following weeks of speculation in the media and on social media sparked by the absence of a public appearance since Christmas.

According to the British agency PA, the Prince of Wales is expected to return to his public duties after the Easter holidays and the return to school of the couple’s children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
