King Carl Gustav XVI of Sweden and his wife Sylvia have fallen ill with COVID-19, reports Aftonbladet, citing royal family spokesman Margaretha Torgren.
She noted that both spouses passed coronavirus tests as part of a “routine procedure.” According to Torgren, representatives of the royal family are “slightly ill” and are at home on self-isolation.
“They handle the circumstances well. They are at home, in the castle, sitting, as it should be, in quarantine, ”she said.
Earlier, the king and his wife were vaccinated against the coronavirus. They received three doses of the corresponding vaccine, however, which one, Torgren did not specify. The couple’s work schedule will be revised. Other family members have not contracted COVID-19.
In December 2020, Queen Sylvia announced that she and her husband had self-isolated at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. According to her, they did not organize receptions, they lived “like ordinary pensioners” and prepared food on their own.
