Kingston has announced the series XS1000 of small external solid-state drives (SSDs). These units measure 32.58mm × 69.54mm × 13.5mm and weigh just 28.7g, with a black metal and plastic casing. 1TB and 2TB capacity drives will be available. A five-year limited warranty is provided.
The connection is made via a USB 3.0 Type-C port, and a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable is provided with this unit. That causes the speed to be limited to 1050MB/s sequential read and 1000MB/s sequential write, with random speed not indicated, but not usually high either due to the USB 3.0 interface. Even so, they are perfect for installing games on them, for example, except those that require PCIe drives.
