Kiril Kotev is the new technical director of the Bulgarian Football Union – a position in which he succeeds the newly elected president of the headquarters, Georgi Ivanov, reports the website of our headquarters.

Kotev will be directly responsible for the work of all national teams, the coaching school at the BFS, as well as for the development of children’s, youth and women’s football in our country.

“I thank the president of the Bulgarian Football Union, Mr. Georgi Ivanov, for inviting me to join his team and occupy such a responsible position. We will all work hard together for the future of Bulgarian football”, said the former defender, who was part of the national team during his last participation in a major tournament – Euro 2004.

Kotev was born on April 18, 1982 in Plovdiv. As a player, he was a two-time champion of Bulgaria – in 2004 with Loko (South) and in 2008 with CSKA.

With the Reds, he also won the Bulgarian Cup in 2006, and in 2015 he repeated the triumph with the Black Sea team.

After the end of his active career, he gained solid management experience as the chief selector and sports director of CSKA 1948 in the period 2018 – 2024.

During this time, the team entered the elite, reached the bronze medals in the championship and played in the final for the Bulgarian cup.

The appointment of Kotev is Gonzo’s first significant act as head of Bulgarian football.
