Kitty Green, Xavier Legrand and Thomas Lilti among the names that complete the Official Section of San Sebastián

Six films are added to the list of candidates for the Golden Shell at the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival. The Official Selection incorporates the new proposals by Kitty Green, Isabella Eklöf, Xavier Legrand, Kei Chika-Ura, Christos Nikou, Thomas Lilti and the debut of Tzu-Hui Peng and Ping-Wen Wang. Names that join those of authors such as Joaquim Lafosse; Cristi Puiu or Robin Campillo; in addition to the Spanish Isabel Coixet, Jaione Camborda or Isabel Herguera.

La de Kitty Green, The royal hotel, is one of the most anticipated films of this edition, since the director surprised with her portrayal of the Weinstein case in The assistant. Green once again entrusts actress Julia Garner to tell the story of two backpackers (Garner and Jessica Henwick) who take a job at a remote Australian pub.

Xavier Legrand surprised everyone with another debut, Shared custody (2017), with which he won the Best Director Award at the Venice Festival, and the Audience Award and RTVE-Otra Mirada in San Sebastián, as well as the César Awards for Best Film and Screenplay. He will compete for the Golden Shell with The successor / The Successor, the story of a designer who, after the death of his father, discovers a terrible secret in the family home.

After the good critical reception of Apples, which was selected in Telluride, Toronto and Venice, director Christos Nikou has had the interpreters Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed, Jeremy Allen White, Luke Wilson and Annie Murphy in his second film -the first in English-, Fingernails (This is going to hurt), a romantic drama that reflects on an institution that tests whether a couple’s love is true.

Thomas Lilti leaves his medical dramas (he is the author of Hippocrates and its television adaptation, and now focuses on education in good teachers, which will be seen in a special projection of the Official Section. A work that has the interpreters François Cluzet, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste to portray daily life in a French school.

Isabella Eklöf jumped into the international spotlight thanks to a Holiday (2018), selected at Sundance and awarded in Austin. Eklöf wrote with director Ali Abbasi the script for Border (2018), winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Her second film as a director, Inverse, centers on a Danish nurse who moves to live in Greenland. For his part, the Japanese director Kei Chika-Ura will present his second film, Great Absencein which a young actor reconnects with his father after the disappearance of his second wife.

To complete the names announced a debut, that of the Taiwanese filmmaker couple Tzu-Hui Peng and Ping-Wen Wang who with Chun Xing / A Journey in Spring they approach the mourning of a man full of remorse after the death of his wife.
