As reported by the Police Department, on September 7 from 8 o’clock 53 min. until 2 p.m. 42 min. received reports that in Klaipėda, Taikos Ave. and Vyturio St., on the Toyota Avensis car, the Mercedes Benz GLK 200 car, the BMW X3 car, the staircase door and wall of the house (Taikos Ave., Vyturio St.) and the windows of the pharmacy building (Taikos Ave.) drawn symbols similar to the letter “Z”.
Also in Klaipėda, Turgaus St., it was noticed that symbols similar to the letter “Z” were drawn with paint on the church bell and information board, and in Klaipėda, Taikos Ave. – At the intersection of Agluona and Taikos Ave. it was observed that symbols similar to the letter “Z” were painted on the billboards.
Since the beginning of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, this letter has become a symbol of supporters of war and Russian atrocities in Ukraine.
The Klaipėda police started a pre-trial investigation into the incident regarding the violation of public order. So if the police were to find the people who wrote these letters, they would face only a very light sentence.
The Penal Code states that whoever shows disrespect to others or the environment in a public place by insolent behavior, threats, malicious mocking or vandalism and disturbs public order or public order shall be punished by public service or a fine, or by restriction of liberty, or by arrest, or by imprisonment for up to two years years.
