Completely new: a unique and advanced platform based on artificial intelligence integrated as a tool in the information systems of family doctors. This platform is a first step in the transition to an era of predictive, proactive and preventive medicine that deals with preventing the outbreak of diseases, preventing the deterioration of diagnosed diseases and adjusting treatment according to the information and medical profile of each patient. The new platform will make it possible, for the first time in the world, to prevent diseases before their outbreak and to provide recommendations for the treatment and prevention of diseases customized to the data of Klalit patients and the latest professional literature in the field.

The platform named C-Pi (Clalit Proactive-Preventive interventions) cross-checks all the existing medical information regarding a particular patient against the most recent information from the medical literature and provides the medical team with recommendations regarding the necessary tests and recommended treatments for him. The system was designed to be able to analyze huge amounts of the patient’s personal information and his medical history against the clinical guidelines and the most recent clinical information available. The system weighs all the data and makes it available to the attending physician immediately. The medical staff can contact the patient at a critical point in time to recommend diagnostic tests and measures to prevent disease and thereby offer the precise and correct medical follow-up and treatment to the patient.

The platform makes available to family doctors a unique set of tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) with which it is possible to identify the patients who are at risk and for whom proactive medical intervention is required to prevent illness or deterioration in their condition. Already today, the platform makes it possible to prevent and treat diseases such as diabetes, hip fractures due to osteoporosis, type C viral liver disease and more.

Eli Cohen, CEO of Klalit: “As a leading health organization, we work extensively in the field of research and innovation to lead to an era of predictive, proactive and preventive medicine. We integrate artificial intelligence tools into our information systems so that the medical teams can provide the best and adapted medical care to each and every patient and thus provide the best and personalized service.”

“In recent years, we have generally led the unique development of innovative tools based on information and data science, in order to give the right treatment, to the right patient, at the right time, and already on the first try. These tools are reflected daily in the treatment of patients, and have been praised around the world.” Prof. Ran Blitzer, Klalit’s Vice President of Innovation, says, “We are particularly proud of the C-PI artificial intelligence system, which simultaneously enables proactive and preventive medicine with the help of advanced predictive models, and at the same time, enables personalized medicine with the help of unifying all the medical information in the patient’s record to create recommendations The most advanced and precise therapeutics, which will prevent them from morbidity and complications. From everything I learned in my activities with leading health systems abroad, this is a practical innovation that has no equal in the world.”

“The C-PI is a unique decision support system, an aid to the doctor, which combines personalized medicine derived from the characteristics of the patient’s illness, databases, artificial intelligence and a complex computing algorithm.” Says Dr. Doron Netzer, head of the medicine department in the general community division. “In a reality where clinical guidelines are updated at a dizzying pace, the system maps clinical algorithms that are based on the latest guidelines on a variety of subjects and crosses them with the extensive information found in each patient’s file. These days we are working on connecting remote monitoring devices such as blood pressure and blood sugar values, in the patient’s home directly to the C-PI system which will alert the medical team of any change in the measurement values and recommend a change or addition to the medical treatment while being monitored by the attending physician. The platform is expected to change the perception of community medicine in the coming decade, will free up precious time for the medical teams in diagnosis and treatment and will enable many future studies that will immeasurably improve the quality of medicine.”

Liora Schechter, Vice President of Information Systems and Digital: “We are proud to be the first health body in Israel and in the world to develop and implement a system for proactive medicine based on artificial intelligence. If until now the artificial intelligence in medicine has focused on the analysis of imaging photographs, now we are breaking new ground and giving recommendations based on intelligence, and medical principles to the family doctor. This is not a single project, we have built an infrastructure, which is expanding more and more, for more and more chronic diseases. This is a real breakthrough.”

The platform was developed in general for about two and a half years, by the medical teams, the information systems teams, and the innovation teams of Klalit. It is in the process of being implemented and has already been integrated with over 1,000 female doctors and general family doctors nationwide. The development of the platform involves medical teams, data scientists, developers And developers – teams led by Dr. Doron Netzer, Dr. Naa Dagan, and Ronit Safar, who develop and implement models that make it possible to predict and prevent illnesses through personalized recommendations for each patient.
