jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Directorate of Tenurial Conflict Handling and Customary Forests through Agung Pambudi emphasized that there is no decree stating the existence of customary land in the Simalungun Regency area. According to regulations, there must be a Regional Regulation (PerDa) stating the existence of customary land in the area.

“In relation to the issue of customary land in Simalungun Regency, including the recognition of a group of people over customary land in Sihaporas and Parmonangan, until now the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Office has not recommended or determined it as customary land,” said Agung Pambudi when receiving the General Chairperson of the DPP/Presidium of Simalungun Customary Stakeholders and Intellectuals (PACS)/Partuha Maujana Simalungun (PMS) Dr. Sarmedi Purba, Sp.OG, accompanied by Executive Secretary Rohdian Purba at the KLHK Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (18/9/2024).

According to Agung Pambudi, customary forests are indeed in the legal territory of indigenous peoples. Customary forests or customary land must have rules or regulations including studies involving all stakeholders on the long stages of determining customary land based on studies from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and stipulated through Regional Regulations (PerDa).

“However, until now there is no Regional Regulation in Simalungun Regency regarding customary land,” said Agung Pambudi.
