Granit Xhaka sees the red card early on, but Liverpool cannot get beyond a draw. It is noticeable that Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah are absent because of the Africa Cup of Nations.

TDespite being outnumbered by more than an hour, Liverpool FC with coach Jürgen Klopp couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw against Arsenal FC in the first leg of the semifinals of the English Football League Cup. The decision will now be made in the second leg on January 20th as to who meets Chelsea in the final. Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 and 1-0.

The first leg between Arsenal and Liverpool was originally scheduled for January 6 in London. The game was postponed due to numerous positive corona tests at Klopp’s team, which caused trouble. Because the Liverpool coach later reported that almost all positive test results had turned out to be wrong and the isolated players had subsequently tested negative.

Liverpool were now clearly the better team at Anfield, especially since the former Gladbacher Granit Xhaka had already seen the red card in the 24th minute for an emergency brake. But the hosts couldn’t put the ball in the goal. The absence of the two star strikers Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah, who played at the Africa Cup of Nations, made itself felt.
