jpnn.comJEMBER – One of the prospective candidates for regent of Jember, Muhammad Fawait or Gus Fawait, is in the spotlight because he was once a witness in the corruption case of former Deputy Chairman of the East Java DPRD, Sahat Tua P Simanjuntak.

The Coordinator of the Jember Anti-Corruption Community Committee (KMAK), Muhammad Kustiono, also asked the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) to issue a letter of acquittal from corruption cases to one of the prospective district head candidates.

“We urge the Corruption Eradication Committee to issue a letter of acquittal from the corruption case because it is very risky if the continuation of this case can drag him into being a suspect,” said Kustiono in his press release, Tuesday (2/7).

Meanwhile, legal observer from Trisakti University, Abdul Fickar Hadjar, assessed that if the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has found evidence and clues, then a re-examination can be carried out.

He said that if the witnesses or related parties provide clear statements, the corruption case will be clear enough and new suspects can be named.

“Yes, if the witnesses or related parties provide clear statements, the corruption case will be clear enough,” he said.

Meanwhile, election observer Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyanzah said that the KPK showed signs that it would not comply with the government’s request to postpone the legal process that ensnared regional head candidates.

The KPK’s steps are considered important to realize regional elections that produce leaders with integrity.
