Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana Honors Elite Units with Bulletproof Vehicles

Yesterday, in a secret base located in the central area of Israel, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana presented three bulletproof vehicles to the elite units of YMM (National Anti-Terrorism Unit) and Gideons. These vehicles have been in use by the Knesset for the past eight years.

Throughout these years, the bulletproof vehicles have accompanied various Speakers of the Knesset, including MK Amir Ohana, Yuli Edelstein, Benny Gantz, Yariv Levin, Miki Levy, as well as leaders of the opposition such as Yitzhak Herzog, Tzipi Livni, Shelly Yachimovich, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Yair Lapid. However, the security forces of the Knesset and the Shin Bet have made the decision to replace these vehicles with state-of-the-art security vehicles, as part of efforts to enhance security measures.

At the request of Chairman Ohana, it was decided to transfer the vehicles to the elite fighting units. Chairman Ohana, along with Knesset CEO Moshe (Chiko) Adri, visited the IMM unit’s base in the central region where he handed over the vehicles for the benefit of the operational units.

In an intimate ceremony, Chairman Ohana expressed his gratitude and admiration for the courageous fighters. He met with the commander of the Air Force Sub-Command H and the commander of the 33rd Air Force Unit A, wishing them and their fighters great success. Ohana said, “You are the tip of our spear, fighters who risk their lives for the safety and security of the citizens of Israel day and night. We owe you a huge debt. I have every hope that through these protected vehicles, which have never disappointed us and have safely transported elected officials across the country for the past eight years, you will be able to continue your activities and preserve your lives so that you return safely from each mission.”

As a sign of recognition and appreciation, the commander of the IDF’s Sub-Commissioner H presented Chairman Ohana with a symbolic photo from the unit’s last activity in Jenin. The commander expressed gratitude for strengthening the security of the unit’s fighters.

Superintendent Amir Cohen, the Commander of the Border Guard, also expressed his thanks to the Speaker of the Knesset, the Director General of the Knesset, and everyone involved in transferring the vehicles to the elite units of the State of Israel. Cohen stated, “There is no doubt that the vehicles will upgrade the units in all their diverse tasks.”

The bulletproof vehicles, which have faithfully served the Knesset for the past eight years, will now play a crucial role in enhancing the operational capabilities and safety of the elite units. The dedication and commitment of these brave fighters deserve utmost recognition and appreciation from the Israeli society.
