After almost 4 years of its release on Apple Arcade, Xbox users can play Oceanhorn 2, a very nice and simple adventure title

It was the year 2015 when Oceanhorn was launched, an adventure game with a top view that was very reminiscent of the classic games of the The Legend of Zelda saga. The game, despite being a fairly simple title, was very liked by the users who tried it, so 4 years later the sequel to it was launched exclusively for the Apple Arcade platform. After passing through various platforms, we received this sequel developed by the studio on Xbox Series X / S Conrfox y Brothers Ltd. and edited by FDG Entertainment. If you want to know everything about this interesting title, in the Xbox Community you will have it.

Gaia, a world with many possibilities

Oceanhorn 2 occurs 1000 years before the first installment, so we are facing a prequel. The story begins with a young man who is finishing his training, which will make him become a true knight. Once this training is completed, everything in the world of Gaia goes wrong, since an evil sorcerer named Mesmeroth together with his dark army is attacking Gaia and its inhabitants. To save the world, our protagonist must find the emblems of the sun, the earth and the ocean, which have been removed from their pedestals and are scattered all over the world. The story is followed with interest and is quite entertaining and, although it is nothing special, it fulfills its purpose. Despite being a prequel, Oceanhorn 2 can be played independently of the first installment.

This all sounds like a lot to me…

Oceanhorn 2 is a game that mixes the action-adventure genre with the RPG. The game is inspired (too much) by other works like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker or even The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Gaia is a fully explorable open world, both on foot and by boat (and with other vehicles). This means that we can visit the different areas of the world at our whim. We can focus on completing the main story, side missions or secrets, this being the player’s choice. This is something very positive, since although the game areas are not very large, it gives the player great freedom. Another aspect that is reminiscent of the aforementioned titles is the leveling up of our character and the crafting of objects. Both elements are quite simple, but they help to give variety and possibilities to the game.

The title abounds above all the combats and the puzzles. If we talk about the fighting, the title falls somewhat short, since these are a bit tasteless and orthopedic. And it is that attacking, rolling and blocking with our shield feels too heavy and rigid. Possibly this is due to the animations of our character and the enemies, since these are too robotic and heavy. This negatively affects the combat that, despite not being bad, could have been significantly improved. Sometimes we will also face fights against final bosses that, being much more spectacular, are very easy to overcome and do not pose any challenge. On the other hand, the puzzles or riddles are quite ingenious, having to use the environment, shield or our character’s gun to overcome them, although these are quite simple.

In some sections of the adventure we will be accompanied by a character who will help us both in combat and in puzzles. The use of these companions is very simple, and it is that we can indicate through orders where to move, which lever to activate or which enemies to attack. This helps make the title more dynamic both in combat and in puzzles, although due to a somewhat poor AI our companion will not be very useful in combat.

Beauty by land, sea and air

One of the aspects in which Oceanhorn 2 stands out the most is in its graphic and artistic section. Each of its corners overflows with beauty on all sides. Both the seas that we will travel in our ship, the paradisiacal islands where we will land or the dark dungeons full of dangers are extremely beautiful. The game is full of color and although, for example, the design of the characters and enemies are not at the same level, it is more than enough. The title uses the Unreal Engine 4 engine, which on Xbox Series X, where this game has been played, runs very well. Despite this, the game does not get rid of some specific slowdowns.

The soundtrack of Oceanhorn 2 more than meets. The game is composed with some very beautiful melodies that accompany the different moments of the adventure with great mastery. The other sound effects are also more than correct. The voices of our characters are dubbed into English, with a fairly good translation through Spanish subtitles.. The voice actors have done a great job.

conclusions

Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is a very simple but fun adventure. It is a game that does not add anything new and that is quite inspired by other titles, but despite this it is fun and entertaining. It could have been a more rounded piece by refining its combat or making its difficulty a little more challenging, but Oceanhorn 2 hooks you. During the 15 hours that your adventure lasts, you will be amazed by the beautiful images that this work offers us and you will try to get all its secrets. For all this, Oceanhorn 2 is a direct and simple game, perfect for a child to start in this wonderful world of video games or for an adult looking for a fun and entertaining game that doesn’t take 200 hours to complete.
