Legal policy for editing PDFs
- Remember that many tools make it easy to sign a PDF file, add text, add photos, or remove portions of it so you can save it or send it to others. Just because you can do it, doesn’t mean you should do it in every situation. Be sure to check whether you have permission to edit the PDF. Also, follow copyright law, never remove copyright or trademark rights, as noted below.
- If a document has a watermark—which usually appears on the background of the page when printed—editing anything may violate the terms of use for that document. When in doubt, ask the person who created, sold, or sent you the PDF. Used wisely, PDFs are a great file type that can organize your home office or school.
