A few days after Defense Minister Bnei Gantz’s meeting with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, it was revealed that the IDF was close to launching a large-scale military campaign against the terrorist infrastructure in the city of Jenin, but eventually refrained from doing so.
According to a report in Ulpan Shishi on News 12, Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi confirmed in a closed conversation that Israel was indeed going to act against the terrorist nests in Jenin, but revealed that the reason Israel did not act in the end was the pressure exerted on the Palestinian Authority.
According to Kochavi, Israel is the one that spurred the security forces of the Palestinian Authority, with which there is ongoing security coordination, and they are finally the ones who entered Jenin and acted against the terrorist organizations there. They seized weapons and arrested many activists.

The report also states that about three months ago, the IDF completed the formulation of operational plans for extensive operations in Jenin, which in recent years has become the terrorist capital of the Judea and Samaria sector.

Its position was further strengthened after the escape of the prisoners from Gilboa Prison last September, when terrorist organizations in the camp were prepared to hide the prisoners and confront IDF forces that would enter the refugee camp in the city, in order to locate them.
