Kerala Woman, Accused in Murder & Drug Trafficking, Arrested for Brutal Assault on mother

A repeat offender with a history of involvement in drug trafficking and a previous murder case is now in custody after allegedly severely beating her mother in Kochi, Kerala.

A 30-year-old woman, identified as Shruti, also known as Nivya, was arrested last Friday following a brutal assault on her 70-year-old mother, Sarasu, at their home in Thitta, Kumbalam, Panangad. The incident, which occurred on the 19th of this month, involved nivya allegedly beating her mother with a wire rod, resulting in broken ribs and requiring six months of rest for Sarasu, according to doctors. Nivya’s five-year-old son has been placed in a childcare center.

While initial reports suggested the assault stemmed from a dispute over a missing face cream, police now believe the underlying cause was a disagreement over money and the mother’s disapproval of her daughter’s lifestyle. “The initial claim about the face cream appears to be a smokescreen,” a senior official stated. “The real issue is a long-standing dispute over finances and the mother’s objections to her daughter’s activities.”

KAPPA law-The Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act allows authorities to detain habitual offenders preventatively, aiming to curb organized crime and maintain public order.

A History of Criminal Activity

Nivya’s arrest is not an isolated incident. Police consider her a “regular criminal” with a documented history of involvement in serious offenses. In 2020,she was implicated in the murder of 19-year-old fahad Hussain,a case that unfolded amidst a complex web of drug trafficking and gang rivalries.

Prior to the murder, on July 24, 2020, Nivya was arrested by Panangad police with three and a half kilograms of cannabis. Her associates, Johnson Jose and Vishnu Surendran, were also taken into custody. Nivya was granted bail on September 9th, but her release triggered a further escalation of violence.

According to reports, a group from Idukki, who had been supplying Nivya with cannabis, arrived at Viyyur jail in Thrissur to collect her. Concurrently, a rival group from Alappuzha attempted to take her away. nivya ultimately left with the Idukki group, prompting the Alappuzha gang to retaliate by damaging property and stealing a mobile phone from the Idukki group’s residence.

Cannabis trafficking-Nivya was initially arrested in 2020 with 3.5 kilograms of cannabis, linking her to a network of suppliers and escalating gang tensions.

The Fatal Dispute Over a mobile Phone

The stolen mobile phone became the catalyst for a deadly confrontation. The Idukki gang reportedly enlisted the help of cannabis retailers in Kochi to recover the device, leading to a meeting near Nettoor INTUC junction with members of the Alappuzha gang. During the attempted negotiation, Nidin S. Nair of the alappuzha gang stabbed Fahad Hussain. Despite initial attempts to stop the bleeding, Fahad succumbed to his injuries after collapsing on the road.

Following the murder, police arrested numerous suspects hiding in Kandanad forest and Kalamaseri HMT Colony, including Anila Mathew, who had provided them with shelter.Authorities also seized cannabis from Anila’s scooter.A charge sheet with approximately 25 accused was filed by Panangad police in December 2020.

Fahad Hussain Murder-The 2020 murder stemmed from a stolen mobile phone and involved multiple suspects, leading to a 25-count charge sheet filed by police.
