Director Shyama Prasad, who was also a member of the jury, is talking about the National Award he lost to Kochu Preman Talanarizha, who left a smile on the Malayali mind. Kochu Preman came close to the National Award for Best Actor in 2015 for his lead role in the film Rupantaram directed by MB Padmakumar.

Kochupreman was transforming into Raghava, who was born blind. Transmutation is the story of the relationship between a blind, mute and deaf man. Kochu Preman showed life with ease in the film, which had less possibilities of dialogue. The film revealed the immense range of the actor who shined mostly in comedy roles.

The jury was amazed by Kochu Preman’s performance during the National Awards 2015. Shyama Prasad, who was in the jury that day, was surprised to know who this actor was.

Amitabh Bachchan was the best actor that day. Padmakumar, the film’s director, remembers that Abhinaya became completely blind with white lenses in his eyes. The director is also worried that Kochu Preman did not get the recognition he deserved for his role in Purpanthar even at the state level. Raghavan in Rupanthar will be a role that will forever be remembered by the actor, who gave big laughs in no matter how small a role he played.
