Kolkata Knight Riders Dominate Lucknow Supergiants, Claim Top Spot in IPL Standings

Lucknow: Kolkata Knight Riders are first in the Indian Premier League. Kolkata leapfrogged to the top spot after winning the match against Lucknow Supergiants by 98 runs. Kolkata bowled out Lucknow for 137 runs after chasing a target of 235 runs.

Lucknow got off to a bad start after chasing a huge target. Kolkata lost Arshin Kulkarni (9), who came out as an impact player in the second over. But then captain KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis who came together at the crease brought the team to 70 runs. Lucknow faltered when Rahul (25 off 21 balls) and Stoinis (36 off 21 balls) got out in the eighth over. All those who came later left immediately. Deepak Hooda (5), Nicholas Pooran (10), Ayush Badoni (15), Ashton Turner (16) and Krunal Pandya (5) all made quick returns as Lucknow suffered a massive defeat in front of their home crowd.

Lucknow were all out in 16.1 overs. Lucknow’s top scorer is Marcus Stoinis who scored 36 runs off 21 balls. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakraborty took three wickets each for Kolkata. Earlier, Kolkata scored 235 runs at the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. This is the record score at Ekana Stadium. Narayan’s brilliant batting of 81 runs off 39 balls led Kolkata to a Himalayan total. Seven sixes and six fours came from Narine’s bat. Naveen Ul Haq took three wickets for Lucknow.
