KOLLAM STATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION PUTS RUNNERS IN DISTRESS DURING INTER-UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS MEET

Kothamangalam: The Kollam State Athletic Association has come under fire for its decision to hold the Boys’ Cross Country Championship during the Inter-University Athletics meet in Chennai, putting the participating sportspersons in a state of crisis.

The Inter-University Athletics meet, which began on the 4th of January, is set to conclude on the 7th. However, the association has scheduled a cross country competition in Kollam on the same day. This decision has left the athletes grappling with how they will be able to compete in both events. The half marathon is scheduled to take place in Chennai at 6:30 am on the cross country day, making it logistically challenging for the athletes to travel to Kollam in time.

According to the competition rules, six athletes from each district are expected to participate. However, the majority of the university runners from Kerala, Calicut, Kannur, and M.G. are currently in Chennai, raising concerns about their ability to travel to Kollam in time for the cross country competition. The athletes are looking for sponsors to help facilitate their travel arrangements.

With the National Cross Country Competition just a few days away, the athletes are calling for the Kollam State Athletic Association to consider postponing the competition by two days to allow for a viable solution. They remain hopeful that the organizers will take their concerns into consideration and make the necessary adjustments.

The sports community is eagerly awaiting a response from the organizers to address the current crisis faced by the athletes.
