Sister Maria de Coppi, a member of the Componian apostolic nun community, was killed in the African country of Mozambique.
On Tuesday night (06/09/22), unknown gunmen set fire to the home of the Combonian community in Chipene and shot and killed 84-year-old nun Maria de Coppi from Veneto, Italy. Two priests and two nuns who were there escaped from this attack.
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, president of the Italian Catholic Bishops’ Conference, expressed his condolences on the killing of Sister Maria de Coppi.
He wishes and prays for the deceased, that the sacrifice of Sister Maria de Kopi, who served in Mozambique for 6 decades, may become a seed of peace and reconciliation in a land that has been hit by the attacks of Islamic revolutionaries again after many years.
