The Simferorol court passed a verdict on the case of embezzlement of millions during the construction of a new pre-trial detention center in Crimea, Kommersant reports. Maya Gagua, the general director of Unistroy LLC, who was the contractor, was sentenced to 4.5 years of probation, Kommersant writes.

According to the newspaper, it was decided to build a new pre-trial detention center soon after Crimea became part of Russia. The investigation believes that in 2015 the former deputy director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Oleg Korshunov “entered into a criminal conspiracy” with Maya Gagua, as well as with the head of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Construction Department 23” (SU-23) Valery Kaklyugin. Investigators believe that Gagua’s business partner Andrei Uglanov was also involved in the conspiracy.

The account of the contractor – LLC Yuristroy – received 195 million rubles, of which more than 94 million rubles. transferred to the accounts of other companies “under the guise of buying materials from them and paying for services,” the newspaper writes.
