In ⁢the index of ‘number of notable papers’, which refers⁢ to papers in ⁣the‍ science and technology field that are ⁣in​ the top 10% in terms of citations, ⁢Korea rose ​one place, while ​Japan maintained its ranking outside the top 10, widening the gap.

According to the Sankei Shimbun and Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei), in the “Science and Technology Indicators 2024” report​ released on ⁣the 9th by the Science, ‌Technology and Academic Policy Institute of the‌ Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science ‍and Technology ‌of ⁣Japan, Korea’s “number of notable papers” ⁤was 4,314, rising one place from⁢ 10th last year to 9th.

On the other hand, Japan ranked 13th with 3,719 flights, the same as the previous year.

This is the annual average ​of the ​number of ‘high-profile papers’ that were cited in other papers in the past‍ three‌ years and were in the top 10% in each field. ⁢Japan publishes a science and technology index report every year that evaluates paper activities in the science and ⁢technology field. This time, the ‌figures for 2020-2022 were reflected.

In ‌this report, Japan maintained‍ its third ‌place in terms of ⁢R&D ⁤spending and number of researchers, and fifth place in terms of‍ total number of papers, but its number of high-profile ‍papers remained outside the top 10, as it did last year.

Moreover, the ‌number of⁣ papers‍ of note in Japan fell from 6th place 10 years ago (2010-2012) to ⁢13th place. On the other hand, ⁤during the same period, ⁣Korea⁢ rose‍ from 12th place to 9th ⁤place.
