Korea Heart: Uruguay beat Ghana 0:2, but were eliminated

The South Americans arrived this evening (Friday) for the meeting against Ghana knowing that they must win and hope for South Korea’s points to stay in the promotion picture. Luis Suarez, who returned to the provocative game against the Black Stars from 2010, and his friends were unable to complete the task, despite a wonderful 0:2 en route to the round of 16, due to South Korea’s 1:2 victory over Portugal, which cost them the next round.

Diego Alonso chose to go up front with the veteran striker and Derwin Nunes, while the Africans started with the Jordan brothers and Andre Yves. In the 21st minute, Sergio Rochet tripped Mohamed Kodos, and after a check by the referee in front of the VAR, Andre Yves approached the penalty spot, but squeezed out a save from the Uruguayan goalkeeper. Five minutes later, the Blues took the lead from a close-range shot by Jorgen de Arascata after a Suarez kick. In the 32nd minute, the striker made a jump to de Arascata’s second, which he kicked from the air and doubled the advantage that looked promising for promotion to the next stage from second place.

At the start of the second half, and knowing that she needed two goals to get back into the promotion picture, the Iwo brothers came out and Osman Buaki entered along with Kamaldin Sulemana. Even a great opportunity by Kudus was not enough for the Black Stars, and on the other side, Nunes was fouled in the area by Daniel Amartey, but after examining the referee’s screen, he determined that there was no penalty for the Blues. Ghana’s pressure continued throughout the second half and a huge kick from outside the box by Kudus was blocked by Rochet in a wonderful keeper’s play. The last few minutes were particularly tense, after South Korea took a 1:2 lead over Portugal, a result that required the South Americans to win the third in order to advance to the round of 16. Tremendous pressure from Edinson Cavani and Maxi Gomes who came off the bench did not result in another goal for Uruguay, who were eliminated along with Ghana at the final whistle.

Nunez already thought he had put Uruguay ahead with a great chip over Atti-Zigi, but Saliso acrobatically cleared the line. Great pace in the game

On one side they missed, on the other side they scored – De Arscata took advantage of Ziggy’s not good enough deflection from Suarez’s kick and pushed the advantage from close range. 0:1 to Uruguay!

In six minutes – a double advantage of De Arscata! The Uruguayan midfielder received a great ball from Suarez and kicked out of the air into the Ghanaian net. 0:2 to Uruguay!

A blow to Uruguay: Bentancourt was injured and left, and Sino entered in his place

Currently with the tie between Portugal and South Korea and the double advantage, Uruguay is on the way to the round of 16

Felistri received a great ball from Suarez, but missed from close range and kicked outside Ziggy’s frame

Double substitution for Uruguay: Cavani and de la Cruz came in instead of Felistri and Suarez who gave a huge performance tonight

Valverde kicked a ball that bounced outside the box, but Ziggy stood his ground and headed well

Another double substitution in Ghana: Semanio and Kofi-Keira came on, Williams and Abdul Samad came out

Semnio capitalized on a poor clearance by the Uruguayan defense, but shot wide just wide of Rochet’s post

Another double substitution in Uruguay: Nunez and De Arscata left, Gomes and Canovio entered

Kudus received a ball on the edge of the Uruguay box and kicked to Rochet’s corner who headed superbly into the corner

Solmana was fouled close to the Uruguay box by Coates who saw the card

Gomes kicked from outside the box to Ziggy’s corner, but the Ghanaian keeper stretched and the header was great

Solmana kicked a huge ball outside the box for Uruguay, Rochet deflected and left a chance for a dramatic goal for the Blues

Last substitution in Ghana: Ishako comes in instead of Kudus

Saido entered the register after a foul on Gomes and arranged a last free kick for Uruguay

De la Cruz kicked the free ball which was easily stopped by Ziggy’s hands

The final whistle at ‘El Janov’! Uruguay with a 0:2 victory over Ghana, but South Korea’s 1:2 over Portugal resulted in the elimination of both teams and the promotion of the Asians to the next stage. What drama in eighth grade!
