Korean Air overtook Managing Director and Hyundai Capital overpowered Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.
Finals at 1:30 PM on the 28th
Korean Air, the strongest team in men’s professional volleyball, calmed the storm of the Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) and advanced to the KOVO Cup finals. Hyundai Capital defeated Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance in a close full set match and joined the final match. The KOVO Cup final, a match between Korean Air and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, will be held at 1:30 pm on the 28th.
Korean Air achieved a shutout victory with a set score of 3-0 (25-22 25-23 25-21) in the men’s semifinals of the 2024 Tongyeong-Dodram Cup Professional Volleyball Tournament against Sangmu held at Tongyeong Gymnasium in Gyeongnam on the 27th.
Korean Air, the ‘strongest V-League’, has only one last step left to take the club’s sixth cup trophy, two years after 2022. On the other hand, Dolpung Sangmu, who participated in this tournament as an invited team and reached the semifinals for the first time in the history of the cup, failed to advance to the finals for the first time.
On this day, Korean Air led the team to victory with Yosvani Hernández (registered name Yosvani) scoring 26 points (60% success rate), while Lee Jun played evenly with 12 points and Kim Min-jae scored 9 points.
For Sangmu, Lim Jae-young scored 13 points, Hong Sang-hyuk scored 8 points, and Hong Dong-seon scored 6 points, but it was not enough to overcome Korean Air.
Korean Air took the first set with Yosbani’s back attack and Lee Jun’s quick open with a 23-22 lead in the first set. In the second set, Sangmu trailed by one point, 24-23, but Korean Air, which was strong in the game, won the second set with Lee Jun’s quick opener.
Korean Air was unable to stop Lim Jae-young, a former Korean Air player, until the middle of the third set and was down 13-16, but once again, it was Korean Air that had the last laugh.
Korean Air boosted Sangmu’s attack with stable defense, and at 24-21, solver Lee Jun finished the game with a quick opener. Lee Jun scored the last point in all three sets.
In another semifinal match, Hyundai Capital defeated Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance with a set score of 3-2 (25-16 25-21 17-25 22-25 15-12).
Hyundai Capital is attempting to win for the fifth time in 11 years since 2013.
Hyundai Capital was responsible for the victory with ‘Ssangpo’ Heo Soo-bong and Leonardo Leyva (registered name Leo) scoring 25 and 24 points, respectively. Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance’s Kim Jeong-ho achieved the triple crown with 3 sub aces, 6 rear attacks, and 4 blocks, but was unable to smile as the team was eliminated.
Hyundai Capital won two sets first, then lost two sets in a row to Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and was pushed to the full set, but in the 5th set, Leo’s quick open and Heo Su-bong’s serve scores came in succession, making the game easier.
Hyundai Capital scored at match point 14-11 thanks to Heo Soo-bong’s rearguard attack, ending a long game and confirming its advancement to the finals.
