SEOUL – Political controversy over the protection of dogs gifted to South Korea by North Korean leader King Jong Un. After the 2018 peace talks between the two Koreas, Un presented two white Pungsan puppies to then-President Moon Jae-in.
Goods received as foreign gifts are owned by the government. However, Moon, who resigned as president, took the dogs home. For that, the law was amended to allow the president to take away plants or animals as gifts.
