The Korean national team won all the Asian Games tickets, one each for men and women, at the Asian Surfing Championships held in Thulusdhoo, Maldives from the 17th to the 24th. A total of 12 Asian Games tickets were distributed, one each for men and women, per country at the Asian Championships.

In this competition, the Asian region was divided into five regions (East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia), and one Asian Games ticket was given to the top-ranking country in each region. In the East Asia region, which Korea belongs to, Japan took all of these priority tickets. Korea, which ranked 8th overall in the men’s division and 7th overall in the women’s division, secured the ticket by ranking in the top 7 among the remaining countries that did not receive tickets in the regions.

In this competition, all of the Korean national team players placed in the top 2 in the first round and advanced straight to the third round. In particular, in the men’s open division, Kanoa Heejae Palmiano (17) advanced to the fourth round, proving the competitiveness of Korean surfing.

In the junior competition held this time, Jeon Seo-hyeon (15) achieved the feat of advancing to the semifinals in her first international competition and finishing in 5th place.

The same tickets are at stake for next year’s Asian Championships. Korea can secure up to two tickets each for men and women depending on the results of next year’s competition.

Coach Song Min said, “This competition is just the beginning of our journey towards the 2026 Asian Games,” and added, “We will secure one additional ticket each for men and women at next year’s Asian Championships to send two players, both men and women, to the Asian Games.” He added, “We will also do our best to maximize the players’ capabilities over the remaining two years and have them perform well in their first Asian Games.”
