Kovid’s new variant ‘son of Omikron’ may cause serious illness

Abu Dhabi: A new variant of Kovid (son of Omikron) has been found to cause serious illness. Japanese researchers have found that ‘son’ (BA2) is more problematic than ‘father’ (Omicron-BA1). Although the research has not been reviewed by the scientific community, researchers have suggested that Omikron’s son may be the most intense variant in light of the study results.

Researchers say that BA2 viruses penetrate into the cells of the nose and multiply vigorously. Those who have taken three doses of the vaccine, including booster, and those who have had Kovid before are less likely to develop the condition. At the same time it is more serious than Omicron but not as deadly as the Delta variant. The study was conducted by Japanese research centers, including the University of Tokyo.

These are thought to have been reported in India, South Africa and Denmark. Typical PCR tests can sometimes detect this virus variant. Therefore, the labs will have to prepare a new system.
