An audit by the Audit Chamber has established that BGN 50,000 was spent from the budget of the Municipality of Kozloduy for cosmetic procedures, underwear, cosmetics and other goods and services that are not related to the activity and function of the local government, public radio reported.
The audit report states that Mayor Marinela Nikolova has reimbursed the illegally spent funds.
The audit of the Audit Office covers a two-year period beginning in 2021. It was established that in the same year, nearly BGN 670,000 was paid against warrants from the Kozloduy Municipality treasury. Of these, irregularities were found for the expenditure of BGN 76,000.
For example, nearly BGN 5,000 were paid against cash receipts from abroad, which were not legalized, and covered expenses for overnight stays without a business trip order.
The most drastic violation found during the inspection is for goods and services that are not related to the activity and function of the municipal administration. They are for over BGN 50,000. The Kozloduy municipality treasury paid against invoices from an aesthetic and plastic surgery clinic in Sofia, for clothes, underwear, cosmetics and other items.
In the report of the Audit Chamber, it is stated that in the local budget the amount for these expenses is due to the reduced financing of municipal activities.
At the end of the report, it becomes clear that in May of this year, Mayor Marinela Nikolova reimbursed the unlawfully spent BGN 76,000.
The detected irregularities refer to her last, second term at the head of Kozloduy Municipality, writes bTV.
The Audit Chamber has given recommendations for tightening the internal financial control in the local government.
