Kraftwerk delivered a large concert cinema in front of Schönbrunn

by time news

Concert shows in Vienna: Kraftwerk transformed the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace into an open-air cinema on Saturday with spectacular multimedia shows.

“Due to strong sunlight, the start time of the Kraftwerk Performance in the Ehrenhof in front of Schönbrunn Palace has to be moved from 8:30 pm to 9:15 pm.” A pioneering news report on Saturday evening “saved” a concert for 10,000 visitors in the evening.

This was the setlist from Kraftwerk in Vienna:

  • Numbers / Computer World / Computer World 2

  • The human machine

  • Love your computer

  • Autobahn

  • Geiger counter / radioactivity

  • Tour de France / Prologue / Stage 1 / Chrono / Stage 2

  • Trans-Europe Express / Metal on Metal / Deduction

  • Spacelab

  • The robots

  • Form / Regeneration

  • Planet der Visionen

  • Boing Boom Tschak / Music Without Stop

At their exhibition in Vienna, the German electronic pioneers relied on an impressive 3D multimedia display in which the entire facade of the castle was used as a projection surface: motorway journeys, UFOs, number games, heartbeats, robots, sound waves and of course the slogan: “ Man – Machine”.

Ralf Hütter and Co.

A large concert cinema, which of course could only happen in the dark. Also because Ralf Hütter and Co. played. cult hits like “Trans Europa Express”, “Radioactivity”, where keywords like “Chernobyl”, “Hiroshima” or “Sellafield”, “Boing Boom Tschak” or “Tour de France” were shown on a rather insignificant one Mini stage act. There was only room for four keyboard stands, four headlights and a transparent semi-circular roof construction.

A great multimedia orgy

The four musicians, all dressed in neon suits, remained discreet and almost anonymous in the background during the impressive multimedia orgy. Instead, they let the video games and the legendary electronic sound do the talking. Even the opening announcement came from a clipped computer voice: “Gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen. Tonight: The man-machine power plant!” Until now after the finale “Musique nonstop”, when everyone left the stage one by one and surprised any excess sitting on it, there was a small donation of words: “Good night. Bye!”

“Further development of the last Kraftwerk shows. A living human machine,” Hütter had promised beforehand. In front of Schönbrunn they kept their word the most: one of the most impressive performances of the year! Even if the biggest hit “Das Model” probably wasn’t played.
