The 20-year-old Olympic debutant Kreis, who is the youngest competitor, cleared the starting height of 5.40 meters on his first attempt, then also cleared 5.60 and 5.70 meters on his first attempt.

None of the three attempts at a height of 5.75 meters were successful, and to reach the final, one had to hope for entry into the top twelve. The Latvian shared the 11th place with the Australian Curtis Marshall and both were the last to secure places in the final.

The other ten finalists, including the world record holder Swede Armands Duplantis, completed the qualification with a distance of 5.75 meters.

The qualifying standard for Monday’s final was 5.80 meters. 30 athletes participated in the selection.

Until now, only Pauls Pujāts from Latvians had reached the final of the Olympic Games in 2016.

The Olympic Games will take place in the French capital until August 11, and not only in the French capital, but also in 16 other places, including the French overseas territory of French Polynesia. The Games program includes 32 sports and 329 sets of medals will be distributed.
