Will they use nuclear weapons? Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told CNN yesterday that Russia had not reached its ambitions in Ukraine, and that they might use nuclear weapons if necessary.

In an interview with Christian Amanpour, Peskov said that in the event of an existential threat, Russia could use nuclear weapons. He also claimed that the “special military operation,” the Russian nickname for the bloody war in Ukraine, “is being conducted according to pre-prepared plans.”

Peskov stressed that the main goal is to ensure that Ukraine remains a neutral country with no military potential, and to get rid of the “national battalions”, in line with Putin’s remarks so far on the subject. Peskov also said that Ukraine should accept the fact that the Crimean peninsula and the separatist districts of Honsk and Donetsk are part of Russia.

Peskov also claimed that Russia was attacking Ukraine for military purposes only, despite repeated reports of incessant attacks on population concentrations.
