The anti-Semitic attack was widely condemned by politicians, including Massimiliano Federiga, the governor of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region where the city of Trieste is located. He expressed his full sympathy with the Jewish community in Trieste, and condemned the graffiti, calling them “a cowardly gesture that must be strongly condemned.” This was reported by the local media.

According to the report, the wording had spelling errors, and appeared last Wednesday morning to the eyes of passers-by in the area. An area that was recently the target of unknown anti-Semites who threw stones at the windows of the synagogue itself. The entire synagogue is under surveillance by security cameras.
The president of the Jewish community of Trieste, Alessandro Salonichio, said he preferred not to give more information about the images taken by security cameras. But “the only certain thing is that whoever smeared the synagogue was a man.” He also said, “We are awaiting the results of the investigation. As a community we are shocked and angry.”
The vandalism occurred on the 84th anniversary of Kristallnacht, a horrific pogrom committed against Jews by the Nazis throughout Germany and Austria on the night of November 9-10.
