A few weeks ago, it became clear that Iréne Svenonius, the Moderates’ top name in the Stockholm Region, is leaving her post for a new role as director general at the State Property Agency.

Now the Moderates’ nomination committee, the election committee responsible for the process, is proposing that the former traffic regional councilor, Kristoffer Tamsons, should take over her role as group leader and finance regional councilor in opposition. He has been seen as the big favorite for the assignment. A vote on the proposal will take place on Wednesday next week.

On his side, it is suggested that he get Axel Conradi, a moderate from Sundbyberg. He thus takes over the role of deputy group leader, a task that Tamsons previously held.

Power struggle

Earlier this week, Expressen was able to reveal that there had been a power struggle over the post of new group leader, where Michaela Fletcher, who is moderate municipal board chairman in Österåker, had also been nominated by a number of local party associations. However, shortly after Expressen’s publication, she announced that she was withdrawing.

– Thanks but no thanks, she wrote on Facebook

At the same time, it was clear that Kristoffer Tamsons had strong support from the circle around Svenonius.

– He is an incredibly skilled politician and absolutely the right person to regain the trust of Stockholmers, a source described him.
