The President of the National Assembly, Henry Kronfle, responded to the statements of the President of the Republic, Daniel Noboa, clarifying several critical issues that, according to him, the country needs to know with precision and truthfulness.

Kronfle said that the president’s statements about the impeachment of Wilman Terán and Maribel Barreno are false. He recalled that the trial was approved with 88 votes and is scheduled for next Tuesday.

He added that the Oversight Commission was unable to recommend the trial due to the absence of the commission’s vice president, who did not vote.

Regarding the national government’s position on the approval of laws, Kronfle pointed out that the government usually votes against when other legislators vote in favor of laws that benefit the Ecuadorian people.

He highlighted the treatment of the five bills related to the referendum, which were unified in a multi-party commission. The report was approved as sent by the President of the Republic, and the Law was approved unanimously.

He also recalled the unanimous approval of the Law that reforms several laws for the Stability of Social Security, a proposal of the Social Christian Party, of which he is a proponent.

Regarding the request to change the agenda to deal with a draft resolution related to the statements of former President Rafael Correa, Kronfle mentioned that the request was certified as inadmissible due to non-compliance with the requirements established in the Organic Law of the Legislative Function.

He denied that the Assembly is protecting Rafael Correa and said that if the government wants to take action, it should go to the Attorney General’s Office and file a complaint.

Kronfle said it was completely false that the cost of the basic basket had been reduced. On the contrary, he indicated that there had been an increase of 33 dollars, going from 766.73 to 799.73 dollars.

Finally, he stressed that it is crucial to maintain transparent and truthful communication with the Ecuadorian people, and reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to work for the benefit of citizens, despite current political tensions and challenges.
