Pop-folk singer Andrea has publicly discussed the profound emotional toll her 2020 breakup with boxer Kubrat Pulev took on her personal and professional life, admitting to a period of significant difficulty and addressing concerns surrounding her stage presence during that time.
The singer recently shared her experiences on a friend’s podcast, detailing how the end of their 13-year relationship impacted her ability to perform and navigate daily life. “A person, being a little sadder, sometimes exposes himself. We have to be honest, it shouldn’t happen again,” Andrea stated, referencing clips from her 2023 performances that sparked speculation about her well-being.
Reports at the time described Andrea’s performances as uncharacteristically erratic – including instances of slurred speech, disheveled presentation, and lackluster vocals.While she did not directly confirm allegations of being under the influence, Andrea acknowledged a vulnerability stemming from the heartbreak.
The split with Pulev, which became public in May 2020, was reportedly triggered by revelations of infidelity. Andrea announced on social media that she had discovered her partner was involved with other women. Shortly after,Pulev began a relationship with Rosalie,with whom he now shares two children: Christina,born in 2022,and Spartak,born in 2023.
“It was hard for me to function as a normal person at all… In front of my family, my parents, my friends – I didn’t wont them to see me the way they saw me,” Andrea explained, reflecting on the challenging period of recovery. A recent controversy arose surrounding DJ Damian’s new song, “Balkan Couple,” featuring selina, which bears a striking resemblance to Andrea’s 2009 hit, “Give Me Everything.” Andrea revealed that Damian repeatedly contacted her to inform her of his intention to create the song, despite her expressing her disapproval. “And I: ‘Thank you for telling me’. Apparently the songs are over. We leaned next to mine. Its not bad,” she commented with a wry smile.
Andrea further stated that Damian verified the copyright status of her song before proceeding, and seemingly disregarded any concerns from his collaborator. “He didn’t consider that it was my song in any way, which shows that he has no respect for anyone,” she asserted. The original inspiration for “Give Me Everything” came from romanian star Ionut Sercel, who frist performed the track.
Notably, Damian reportedly approached numerous artists to collaborate on “Balkan Couple” but was refused, with many citing the song’s clear connection to Andrea’s work. Only Selina agreed to participate. Andrea, though, expressed no animosity towards Selina, stating, “However, the girl is breaking thru now, she must become famous.”
