Aquarius: The police today arrested the owner of a printing press that had controversially printed a picture of Ambedkar in Kumbakonam.

On the occasion of Ambedkar Memorial Day, posters with Ambedkar’s picture were controversially put up in Kumbakonam city on the night of 5th. The poster also featured pictures of Hindu People’s Party leader Arjun Sampath and state secretary Gurumurthy. After the Liberation Tigers protested, the police started removing the posters.

Following this, the Dalit organization protested in front of the Kumbakonam DSP office and demanded his arrest. The state secretary of the Hindu People’s Party, D. Kurumurthy, was arrested by the police yesterday and locked up in the Kumbakonam branch jail.

Following this, the East Police arrested Subhash Makan Manikandan (35), who is the owner of Annalakharaharam, who runs a printing press at Upulkaratheru, Kumbakonam, who printed the poster, and confiscated the computer and electronic items he used and are investigating. Both of them have been booked under 4 sections of IPC namely 153(A), 295(A), 504, 505.
